Description
Inspired by Chanel’s iconic jackets as well as the vibrancy of Indian clothing, this ONE-OFF bohemian bolero is a striking example of re-imagined couture.
This soft yet substantial piece is skillfully designed and tailored from garments that people could no longer see a use for. Their loss is your gain. In the Florence Saves Clothes workroom, we took Indian cultural dress, well-worn blue denim jeans and complemented them with luscious, designer printed cotton gifted by one of Auckland’s longstanding fabric artists.
It is interlined with fusing to hold it’s form and carefully shaped with a gathered sleeve head, darting at the neck and curving princess lines. The decorative pockets, sparkling gilt edges and centre-back motif all contribute to a bold statement about reconstructed fashion, sustainability and the meeting of cultures. This jacket has an open front, with hidden hooks and eyes for subtle fastening.
MATERIAL SOURCES: ImpacTex, Beautification Trust, Mystic Quilter, community donors, Florence Saves Clothes stock.
PROCESS: Once collected from various sources, all pre-owned garments are washed with sustainable and disinfecting product, then dried in natural sunlight. Garments are cut up into panels and pressed before being selected for each specific panel of the intended garment. Each pattern piece is then cut individually and the sewing, fitting and pressing process begins to create a truly unique piece of clothing…much like the haute couture culture that inspired it.
SIZE: This is a totally unique jacket made to fit this female form: large 8/ standard 10/small 12.
LOCATION: Cleaned, graded, designed, cut, sewn and finished at the Westmere workroom and mobile mending van.
CARE: This garment will be best cared for with very infrequent dry cleaning
COMPOSITION: The outer is a mix of cotton/ cotton elastane/ polyester and decorative beading. The printed lining is 100% cotton. The interlining is nylon fusing.
