Description
Inspired by the contrast between lilac-blue softness of wildflower meadows and hardworking, rough-edged denim, this ONE-OFF saved-denim yoke & cotton skirt hints at cowgirl culture, festivals and sunny days.
This is an easy-wear, trans-seasonal statement piece that tips it’s hat to a previous life as a pair of custom Levi’s jeans, with cute back pocket flaps and plenty of raw, distressed edging. In the Florence Saves Clothes workroom, we teamed it with high-quality cotton prints that our associate fabric artist no longer had use for and created one layer of three gathered fabric blocks. The hem is finished with linen binding. It is shown here in a barefoot summer setting, but in colder months, wear it with bright tights and DMs, Chuck Taylors or even winter ballet flats. Alternatively, wear it over tatty denim flares for a trending peplum look.
SIZE: This totally unique skirt has a jeans wait of 28″, and therefore fits a female (or equivalent) 10 /12. Model Cindy is a size 10. The skirt length is 40cm measured from waistband, at centre back.

PROCESS: Once collected from various sources, all pre-owned garments are washed with sustainable and disinfecting product, then dried in natural sunlight. Each yoke is placed on the dressmakers dummy and reshaped then distressed to emphasise raw edges, before being matched with three cotton fabric blocks for the gathered skirt layers.
IMPACT: By reimagining a denim yoke and cotton panels as a new garment, we’ve saved an estimated 200g of denim, cotton and zip/stud hardware going to landfill. This means we prevented roughly 8kg of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emissions from entering the atmosphere. Additionally, we’ve avoided putting about 20kg of CO2e into the atmosphere by using what we already have and not manufacturing new materials and product to make this piece.
LOCATION: Cleaned, graded, designed, cut, sewn and finished at the Westmere workroom and mobile mending van.
CARE: This garment will be best cared for with very infrequent hand washing and line dried, then pressed with a steam iron.
COMPOSITION: The outer is a mix of denim/elastane yoke with 100% cotton skirt.
