After much sampling and testing, we’re delighted to produce a series of bags that are lusciously colourful and whimsical, yet uber-practical and sustainable. Every panel is different and 100% reversible.
Happy Bag #1 comes in delicious greens and purples with a mix of pale and dark denim. It saves roughly a pair of discarded jeans, half a metre of stunning cotton print and over a metre of bright, super-wide elastic from going to landfill. What’s not to be happy about?! That’s why we called these ‘Happy Bags’ – think of it as wearing a dash of joy on your shoulder.
SIZE: This totally unique shop-all tote is made of 3 panel types: front & back; side, base. The bag measures 34cm wide, 20cm deep and 30cm high
MATERIAL SOURCES: ImpacTex, Mystic Quilter, Trendy Trims, Cordall, Florence Saves Clothes stockroom
PROCESS: Once collected from various sources, all pre-owned garments are washed with sustainable and disinfecting product, then dried in natural sunlight. Each bag is individually cut and matched with the elastic and cotton print lining.
LOCATION: Cleaned, graded, designed, cut, sewn and finished at the Westmere workroom and mobile mending van.
IMPACT: By reimagining discarded jeans, cotton print and vibrantly coloured elastic as sturdy, fun bags, we prevented roughly 20kg of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emissions from entering the atmosphere. Additionally, we’ve avoided putting about 40kg of CO2e into the atmosphere by using what we already have and not manufacturing new materials and product to make this piece.
CARE: This garment will be best cared for with very infrequent hand washing and line dried, then pressed with a steam iron.
COMPOSITION: The outer is a mix of denim/elastane with 100% cotton lining and nylon/elastane elastic straps.
